Habitat The panther or puma is considered an endangered specie. It ranges from British Columbia to Patagonia. Its habitats include mountains, forests, swamps, deserts, and jungles. Black Panthers used to be plentiful in the mountains of North Carolina. I have read of encounters with Black Panthers that occurred in the early 1900's. Old timers have told me that a Panther screams in the middle of the night. the sound is an eerie sound like a woman screaming. It has been known to kill livestock. It is a solitary cat preferring to be alone. It is nocturnal meaning it hunts at night. Breeding Habits The panther breeds anytime during the year, but most births occur in the summer. The kittens are spotted and lose their spots at about 6 months. They nurse for about 5-6 weeks and will stay with their mother for about 2 years. Other Names The Panther is either of two mammals of the cat family, the leopard or the puma.
